In an SLCP verification, an SLCP-approved Verifier is responsible for verifying a specific facility's responses to the questions in the Data Collection Tool. The Verification Protocol  outlines the rules for conducting an SLCP verification, while the Verifier Guidance provides guidance for Verifiers in answering the questions in the Data Collection Tool. As part of the application process, prospective Verifiers are required to study both documents and pass an exam to demonstrate their knowledge.

Generally, the verification process involves an onsite visit. However, in exceptional cases such as travel restrictions, a full virtual verification may be conducted. The Guide to Onsite + Virtual Verification provides information on when and how a full virtual verification can be carried out.
